This moveable pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive at the Chicago River was the winning design for this location in the City of Chicago’s 2005 Lake Shore Drive Pedestrian Bridge Competition. It is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic bascule bridges crossing the main stem of Chicago River. Instead of concealing its mechanical equipment, the mechanism is rendered in bright colors and displayed within a giant glass enclosure. The pedestrian walkway and bikepath are divided by a single all-stainless steel open-web Warren truss.
